Installation

The Bipes Automotive Portable MP3 Adapter is easy to install.  No cutting or splicing is required – you just plug and play.

Illustrated is a complete installation with the MP3 audio cable routed into the center console storage compartment.  You may of course choose to route it to another location.  This installation takes about 15-30 minutes.

Remove the small storage compartment under the head unit by pulling it outward.  Grasp it firmly with both hands and exert pressure outwards on the inside of the compartment to obtain a grip.

Remove the head unit by using a Mercedes tool or substitute a small Swiss Army knife (nail file blade).

Disconnect the cables from the rear of the head unit.

Plug the main wiring harness connector into the mating Bipes Automotive MP3 adapter connector.

Plug the Bipes Automotive MP3 Adapter cables into the head unit.  Reinstall any other cables you may have removed (CD/phone optical cable, antenna cable).  Slide the adapter into the head unit slot and push it to the rear.  Carefully reinsert the head unit.  You may want to gently pull the MP3 Adapter out of the storage compartment opening from below to help pull the wiring harness in behind the head unit.

Open the center console storage bin and locate the flap of material at the back of the bin floor.  Pull the flap forward to expose the fastening nuts.

Remove the two 10mm nuts.

Gently lift the rear of the console an inch or so.  Drill a 3/8” hole in the storage bin floor.

Thread the MP3 audio cable through the hole that you just drilled.

With the console slightly elevated, push the audio cable underneath the console.

Continue working the audio cable forward.  Thread the cable into the area behind the small storage bin receptacle.

Plug the audio cable into the Bipes Automotive MP3 Adapter.  Stow the adapter at the back of this space.  Replace the storage compartment by sliding it backing place.

Back at the storage bin, pull the desired length of audio cable into the bin.  Fold the flap of material back in place.

The storage bin cover fits loosely enough that you may operate and enjoy your MP3 player even with the console cover closed.
